We have an immediate need for a Construction Safety Manager to work with our Construction Team in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
As the Construction Safety Manager for NORESCO, you’ll spend a majority of the work week on the construction site coordinating the development and execution of NORESCO's site safety plans. You’ll work in conjunction with our Project Management team and the customer’s representatives to develop and execute a safety plan that meets the unique construction environment.
In order to be successful in this role, you will need to perform the following tasks:
- You’ll have direct access to Subcontractor management with full authority to coordinate safety-related changes and resolve safety issues.
- Conduct and document daily surveillance of the workplace to identify and correct hazards and safety plan noncompliance. Maintain a copy of all surveillance activities.
- Respond to contractor safety surveillance findings by providing a written corrective action plan within one working day of notification.
- Impress upon all subcontractors’ supervisory personnel their responsibility and accountability for each individual to maintain a safe workplace.
- Document (in writing) and file and distribute job site inspections. Make recommendations and notify the subcontractors of any corrective action to be taken on noted safety violations.
- Prepare and maintain files for all necessary documentation at the job site (i.e., Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Job Site Safety Inspection Reports, Insurance Carrier Loss Control Inspection Reports, OSHA Inspection Reports, Toolbox Safety Meetings, posters, notices, accident report log, accident reports, and company directives, instructions, and educational material).
- Maintain copies of manuals and materials, including the Site Safety Plan, the OSHA manual, and the local and/or safety code, as needed to carry out the Site Safety Plan.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings with the subcontractors’ supervisors discussing safety concerns and encouraging consistent safety performance.
- Record discussion topics and issues on the Weekly Safety Meeting Form which is signed by all attendees.
- Conduct safety audits and provide copies to the Senior Project Manager, Construction Project Manager, job site safety file, and all subcontractors affected by the audit.
Travel Requirements:
- If not local to the jobsite, the Construction Safety Manager must be able to travel to and work at remote locations as needed (typically 12 consecutive days (two full work weeks and a weekend in between) returning home for two-days every other weekend.
- If local to the Jobsite, the Construction Safety Manager must possess adequate means of transportation to and from the jobsite.
In order to be considered for this role, you will need to have the following minimum requirements:
- A strong background in the construction of projects involving mechanical, electrical and building automation system design and installation is required.
- Must have successfully completed the National Safety Council “Supervisors Development Program” or having equivalent experience as a Safety Professional.
- Must have successfully completed the OSHA “30-hour Construction Outreach” course or equivalent.
- Past employment should include at least five (5) years work experience in construction as a safety professional.
- BS in Construction Safety Management or another technical field related to construction and safety. Ten (10) years work experience in accordance with Item #1 may be substituted for this requirement.
- Possess basic computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project.
